Parent Judging Requirement

Depending upon the tournament, we are required to provide 1 judge for every 2-4 competitors.  As such, students are required to provide an adult judge for every other tournament at which they register, or more for qualifying tournaments as indicated on the tournament sign up sheet.  An adult judge may be any adult family member, friend, neighbor, etc. and our program will provide training and support for all volunteer judges.  You may also provide hired judges, but are responsible for the arrangement of payment.  The more parents who volunteer, the more we can distribute judging obligations to minimize the burden on each individual family.  Judges are required to stay for the duration of competition unless specific arrangements have been made ahead of time with the Director of Speech and Debate.  Tournaments with elimination rounds typically require judges to stay for one round past the last team elimination and only in those circumstances may a judge be dismissed early.  Students who are unable to provide a judge or are below their judging requirement may still be able to compete, but will be given lower priority in registration.  If you have extenuating circumstances that make this requirement difficult, please talk to the Director of Speech and Debate.
